US VP JD Vance meets Israeli PM, saying he’s optimistic about the fragile ceasefire in Gaza

US Vice President JD Vance has been holding talks with Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as Washington seeks to preserve a tenuous ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Vance joins other senior US officials who travelled to Israel to build momentum around the next phase of the deal.
Speaking a day earlier, the Vice President said he had “great optimism” that the truce can hold.
He also declined to set a deadline by which Hamas is expected to fully disarm which remains a sticking point.

Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut has more from Jordan’s capital Amman because Israel has banned Al Jazeera from reporting there.
